Grand Opening of my first retail location and how I was inspired to start creating pieces of art

I am so excited to share that I have opened a brand new and first retail location! I now have space at the Emporium in downtown Castle Rock! If you haven't ever been, you really need to check it out. It is a beautiful store full of so many goodies.... artwork, wooden signs, kitchen and home decorations and so much more.

The idea to sell pieces of art came to me a while ago. It has always been a bucket list type of thing to have a piece hang in an art gallery or art show. In January of this year, I had the privilege of having my first piece hang at Core Art Gallery in downtown Denver. That show sparked my interest and desire to create more pieces and my why made total sense.

Not only did it make my heart sing to create these new pieces but it gave a way for us to celebrate the curves of a woman in an anonymous way as a piece of art.

It allows us a way to celebrate our female curves, a way to identify with all female shapes and BE A WORK OF ART (literally!)

I start with a specific type of photograph I have taken and I begin by tracing her outline digitally with a thin black brush. I use exact and artistic lines to do this first step. I keep the details of her face to a minimum to create the more anonymous feel. The white space in the piece is created from the light and the dark is created from the shadows. So, photographing the body using creative lighting at the time of taking the photo is super important. A piece can take minutes, hours or days depending on the look I am trying to achieve. The name of the piece comes from how the piece makes me feel or what it makes me think of, still trying to be general enough that the viewer can still make their own interpretations of it.

You can see and purchase framed and matted pieces in my space, ranging from 4x6 to 16x24. I have also created shirts, framed quotes and other little gift ideas that are fun.

If you are looking to add new pieces to your collections or to start one, I would be honored to be a part of that. I am just beginning this journey and can't wait to see where it takes me.
